Charles Leclerc “ashamed” of himself after qualifying crash at F1 Barcelona GP


A pissed off Charles Leclerc is feeling “ashamed” of himself after crashing in qualifying for the Formulation 1 Barcelona Grand Prix, leaving him tenth on Sunday’s grid.

The Ferrari driver drifted onto the dustier line at Flip 4, inevitably inflicting him to lose the again finish and spin into the barrier on the primary push lap of his Q3 session.

It has continued an underwhelming run for Leclerc, who’s with out a podium since Japan in March and crashed out from third at his residence race in Monaco final weekend.

He blamed final week’s crash on his brakes, so switched to an identical configuration as team-mate Lewis Hamilton, however nonetheless had little impact as he ended one other session in a downbeat temper.

When requested if the brakes had something to do along with his qualifying crash, Leclerc replied: “No, no, there’s none of that.

“I tailored very nicely straight from FP2, I felt very comfy with it, and there is nothing of that – there isn’t any excuses.

“I felt very ashamed after the final three weekends which were significantly tough for me to search out tempo for points I had.

“Right now, and this weekend, I believe the whole lot felt actually, actually good and on as of late I have to ship and I did not. So I felt very ashamed basically.”

The result’s made worse by Hamilton qualifying second, so he’s in a very good place to increase his factors benefit over Leclerc after leaping forward following his podiums in Canada and Monaco.


So, this weekend is now a case of harm limitation for the Monegasque, who was simply making an attempt to over-correct the pace deficit he thinks Ferrari had at Flip 4 in Barcelona.

Leclerc advised Sky Sports activities: “I launched the brakes earlier. I believe we had been near being the quickest automobile each nook other than Flip 4.

“I knew it was a weak point, I knew I needed to make the whole lot good for that lap. I attempted, however I clearly remorse it and once more I really feel very a lot ashamed.

“The final two races, Canada and Monaco, I used to be in a really difficult configuration to cope with, that did not make it straightforward and Monaco ended the best way it ended. That was already very tough to take and settle for, realizing that I may do little with it.

“However this weekend there was none of that. The automobile was nice, the sensation with the automobile was wonderful and I did not ship. If something, it is rather a lot worse than that, I put it into the wall.

“So there isn’t any excuses, I simply really feel ashamed. The one constructive I can take is that the sensation that I’ve within the automobile is again and for tomorrow I really feel optimistic. However I would like to point out that. I simply have to do the right race.”
