Christian Rasmussen was the star of Saturday’s 250-lap IndyCar race at Phoenix Raceway, making dozens of passes and dominating a lot of the race. Sadly, it resulted in tears as he and Will Energy collided within the battle for the lead, damaging each vehicles.
The incident, which left Rasmussen with a wounded automobile and Energy with a minimize tire, triggered the ultimate warning flag of the race. Josef Newgarden was amongst those that used that yellow flag to get contemporary tires, and rapidly marched by the sphere.
Kyle Kirkwood took the lead from the ailing Rasmussen, just for Newgarden to grab it away and drive off with the race win. Kirkwood completed second, and pole-sitter David Malukas took the ultimate spot on the rostrum.
Rasmussen slipped again to 14th within the closing operating order.
